Homework

Hello all, Just a note to make you aware of a change in homework. There will continue to be a math page assigned, but I will have students only complete the even numbers. Homework is a review of material that we learned in class that day. It is not to be stressful or overly long. The purpose is to help concrete the methods for students, not to overwhelm. Please contact me if you see there is a problem with the amount of time your child is taking to complete the task assigned. We can easily make adjustments if needed. The rock reports are nearing completion and will be posted on this blog as soon as I can compile them into one slide show for each class. I expect to have these posted by the end of September. Please note: Next week we will be taking the ITBS next week. Please encourage your student to eat a good breakfast, get plenty of sleep, and do their best. Have a good week, Mrs. Bassett

First Math test

Well, we have now finished a difficult math chapter. We took our test, so now we can move on to review addition and subtraction. Please do not feel discouraged if your child did not do great in this unit. This is why there are few grades taken on this topic. Your child will master this concept as they age and advance in school. In science, we are continuing with the chapter on rocks and minerals. Students love the activities that are part of the science units. I expect everyone to do well. Please feel free to contact Mrs. McDonald or myself for any questions. Thank you Mrs. Bassett

First week down! Whew!!

Well, we made it!! We have some great students in our class. Ms. McDonald and I are thrilled with our groups. We are very proud to have your child in our classes. The new schedule is slowly getting there but we are all learning something new. The students show us they are willing and ready to learn. In Math, we are learning place value. Our first test will be next Wednesday. I have focused on math during our transistion time. We will be starting our science studies of rocks, minerals, and fossils. Next, we will start learning cursive writing skills. This all takes time to get used to and the students are learning quickly. I am so proud of them. See you all soon, Mrs. Bassett

WOW!!! A limo and a movie

Today, we had a wonderful day. Students were thrilled with a limo ride like our story character Nate the Great did. Then, students were treated to the movie, "The Great Mouse Detective." There were many laughs and excitement rolling around third grade today.

Bassett's Bugs
Hello, my name is Mrs. Bassett. I am 44 years old and this is my thirteenth year teaching and all of these here at Moreland Elementary. I’ve taught third grade for tweleve of those years. I have a Specialist's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I started college ten years after I graduated from Campbell High School of Fairburn in 1982(now Landmark Christian). I was married in October of that same year. We have been married for 27 wonderful years. We have daughter 22 and a son 17. I love animals and my children share that love. We have three dogs, a cat, a gecko, and one bearded dragon. I love teaching and consider it a privilege to teach your children. I plan on being here for many years to come. Maybe, I will have the honor of teaching more than one of your children.
